GelinAbaci Tension Settings

Why choose a tension-set ring?
Tension settings do away with prongs, channels, bezels or any other kind of enclosure to hold gems in place.  In a tension setting, the whole tension ring (tension mounting) acts as a stone holder; the diamond is held in place by the ring itself - a better system than a prong setting, which holds it with a claw just a fortieth of an inch thick.  Because the stone is held by the lateral pressures that are carefully brought to bear at the time of a ring's creation, a tension-set stone is protected to a greater extent than if it were held with traditional prongs.  In fact, the tension setting is the BEST setting possible for protecting the stone. Additionally, it is the very best method for showing a stone's brilliance - it can enhance the color as much as two grades!

How do I order a tension-set ring?

Each tension ring is custom made by GAI for your specific diamond size and finger size. The rings you see on our site are examples of the many designs GAI offers. We encourage you to browse the available styles, submit all of the requested information, and we will do our best to get you an accurate quote.  Our sales staff has an excellent rapport, and daily communication, with the folks at GAI, so we can expedite your order in a timely manner.  You can also call us directly at 1-800-711-7279 with any questions you may have!

What about selecting a stone to set?
Each ring comes standard with a CZ, but we here at the Jewelbox can help you select another stone to set...a diamond, ruby, sapphire, or Moissanite.  Of course, the most commonly set stone is a diamond and we would be happy to help you select a diamond.  Again, please include this information in the message when you submit your request.   It's important to remember that the stone selected must be of sufficient quality to withstand the considerable pressure exerted by the setting (SI1 range or better), and GAI remains the final judge as to the suitability of a stone in any case. (If you were to supply a stone which was found by GAI to be unsuitable, it would be returned to us, and to you, unset.)

Each setting style has its own specifications for the cut (round, princess, etc.) and size of stone that it can accommodate (these are noted with the individual styles)...although with additional custom charges, GelinAbaci can often create a tension set ring with a stone as large as 5 carats.

What if my ring doesn't fit?
Each is made to a specific finger size, and can be resized only by GAI, but they do not guarantee that resizing is possible on all rings. When possible, a variation of only about a quarter-size up or down - or, less frequently, a half-size-may be expected. Beyond that, the ring must be recreated, and a discount plan is available for this service. We can guide you through the process of finding the proper ring size, which is another reason we encourage you to call us directly toll-free at 1-800-711-7279.

What our customers have to say: "Wow Wow Wow!  Received my fabulous ring!  Gosh it was worth waiting for. I cannot stop looking at it.  Perfect, just as I had dreamed and imagined.  My husband has gained many "brownie points" for helping me choose Micky Roof.  The quality of the work and setting of the stone held in place by tension... superb... breathtaking.   Steve, thank you so much for you kind help and assistance in choosing the correct setting for this special gift. (it replaces my original engagement ring that was stolen, and you believe that could never be replaced, well I'm not so sure now !).  So thank you all for this precious gift.  I will be looking at more of your jewels.  Kindest Regards."  NT (UK)
